Ban on Excessive Payment Surcharging
From September 1 2017, all businesses in Australia are banned from charging customers excessive card surcharges when using EFTPOS or credit cards to pay for purchases. Under the new legislation, a business is only allowed to pass on to the customer the costs that the business was charged for accepting payment of that payment type. Banks are required to give businesses clear information about what those costs are.
