The 2024 NECA SA/NT Industry Gala Dinner was held on Friday 30 August 2024 in Halls CD at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The event plays host to our NECA Excellence, Small Business, and Apprentice Awards where we recognise the achievements of the region’s top electrical contractors, some brilliant small businesses, as well as some fantastic apprentices. It was a truly brilliant evening with 480 guests coming together to celebrate the electrotechnology industry.

For Norwood Ambulance Station
With only five technical employees, SYNC Cabling Solutions completed the electrical installation for the new Norwood Ambulance Station. This single-storey SA Health building includes a garage that accommodates five ambulances, two light fleet vehicles, plus a carport for an additional eight light fleet vehicles. The station provides training spaces and leadership offices, and is a hub for metropolitan-east-based paramedics. SYNC’s specs included electrical light and power, standby power generation, telecommunications, paging antenna systems, security, access control, CCTV, audio visual, MATV, and intercom.
For Royal Flying Doctor Service William Creek
Clean Power Electrical Group completed an Australian first model of virtual emergency care – hospital-grade medical consultation, diagnosis, and treatment immediately accessible on location at any time of day without a health professional in the room – at the Royal Flying Doctors William Creek site. This new facility will not only benefit residents and workers in and around William Creek, but also the thousands of tourists that visit this special part of South Australia each year.

For Peak Iron Windy Valley Innovation
Peak Iron Mines were restarting a remote mine site that had originally been constructed in 2011, and mothballed in 2015 with all communications systems removed. Faced with a multi-million dollar bill to re-install the old technology, MIMP Connecting Solutions proposed a satellite and microwave solution for a fraction of the 2011 technology price, providing digital two-way, mobile phone, and multi-site data communications that have operated flawlessly since commissioning.

For Teys Naracoorte High Voltage Reticulation Upgrade
Nilsen (SA) completed the electrical infrastructure upgrade for this beef processing plant, which included HV and LV protection design, embedded generation, and civil works. They installed 900 metres of bundled aluminium cable, 200 metres of earthing, and 4 kilometres of conduit. The new HV metered connection helps Teys Naracoorte reduce their costs and improve reliability. It also enhances power connectivity for embedded generation via the biogas-fuelled power plant and planned future renewable projects.

For Adelaide Oval LED Broadcast Lighting Upgrade
Faced with a very tight completion deadline with large penalties for any delays, CME Group overcame the unique challenge of 70 metre ascents twice daily to decommission 532 lights and install 300 new LED lights across four lighting towers. A unique abseil delivery option was developed, while meticulous safety protocols, tower rescue plans, wind event management, and stringent working at height training underscored CME Groups commitment to work safety on the complex project. This lighting tower upgrade stands as a testament to innovation, quality, and teamwork setting a high benchmark for the industry.

Ngutu College is a not-for-profit organisation providing education for children from less fortunate financial situations. CITE Services delivered the electrical, communications, and security upgrade of the pre 1950’s building in only six months from strip-out to handover. This included a new site MSB and vault, three distributions boards, general and specialised power, hazardous rea lighting, and architectural lighting with Dali control.
For Kangaroo Island Visitors Centre – Flinders Chase
With its focus on environmental sustainability and low carbon footprint, the design and location of the Kangaroo Island Visitors Centre required stringent planning by the NGC Electrical team to manage labour requirements and deliveries of materials to the ferry terminal, which was ninety minutes from the work site. They completed extensive civil works, along with new supply, MSB, distribution boards, general power and light, solar, communications ,security and CCTV.

For The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Clinical Services Building
Nilsen (SA) successfully completed a $30 million electrical and communications installation to the new Clinical Services Building at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The scope of works included main site electrical infrastructure from existing transformers to a new mains switchboard, main distribution board, and other distribution boards. Furthermore, the scope also included two uninterruptable power supply units and three generator sets and controls. Nilsen also installed new backbone cabling from the existing tower block and inpatient building to the new site as well as internal backbone to eight communications rooms via diverse pathways.
